About Ms. Sheighlyn
Owner and Lead Teacher
I, Ms. Sheighlyn, grew up in Connecticut where I attended Eastern Connecticut State University and earned a BA in Psychology with a minor in Women's Studies. After college I worked in social services, mostly working with people with mental illness. In 2013, I met my husband, Ross, who was in the Navy and that took us to live in Honolulu, HI, and San Diego, CA. There we started a family with Rex, and later with Dorothy when we moved to Minnesota. While living in San Diego, I attended a DONA Birth and Postpartum Doula Training and began attending births. Once moving to Minnesota she continued with births until Dorothy was born when I decided to stay home as long as I could.
In early 2019, it was time to go back to work. I decided the best place to start was at a daycare center. After working at 2 different daycare centers over the course of 5 months, I realized that although I LOVED being a daycare teacher. The center environment was not the right place for me.
That is how Growing Minds Family Daycare was created. I wanted my kids to grow up in a place I was comfortable with. My goal is to create a high quality family daycare, with some of the good things about a center and all of the good things about family care. My goal is not to be like other daycares, but to create something new and valuable. I know how important early childhood education is and I strive to prepare children from babies to preschoolers for school and beyond.
